Her relatives hadn’t heard from her for a few hours. Investigators said Elizabeth Caruso was visiting New Jersey and was in town to meet her 40-year-old son, Anthony Caruso.

Police reports say when detectives arrived at the apartment they found blood smeared on the door and the floor of the hallway.
The blood trail led to a garbage room.
“We found a female victim in a waste container,” Miami Beach Police spokesman Christopher Beth told NBC 6.
Detectives say Elizabeth Caruso’s neck was seriously injured almost to the decapitated head. She also had several bone fractures on her arms, hands, face and head.
“When our officers tried to come into contact with the subject, he barricaded,” Beth said, referring to Anthony Caruso.
The apartment was evacuated as officers tried to negotiate with Antony Caruso in a standoff that lasted several hours. Eventually, police arrested Caruso and managed to drive him out of the building.
According to prison records, he faces a charge of second-degree murder in connection with his mother’s death, assault with a law enforcement officer, deadly weapon, arson and criminal mischief attacks.
The circumstances surrounding Elizabeth Caruso’s death remained under investigation Monday. According to NBC 6, investigators believe Anthony Caruso could suffer from mental illness.
