Gabriel Solomon of Lehiacre randomly attacked the 62-year-old woman, stabbing her in the back of her neck before chucking her with a bottle of liquor, the arrest report said.
The woman was able to prevent him from slamming the bottle by pushing her shopping cart towards Solomon as he lunged at her. Another customer tackled Solomon on the ground and stopped him.
The report said Solomon picked up scissors from his home and walked to the store after hearing a voice in his head. He later told authorities that the voice told him to go to that Publix and someone to shop. The voice didn’t tell him to hurt the woman, but according to the report, he wanted to do it because it “feels good.”
He added that the woman was standing next to him in one of the aisles, trapped by her as she followed around the store before the attack.
New claims filed against the son of the co-founder of Buc-EE
When officials arrived, the victim was found behind the store. According to arrest reports, the woman also had bruises and swelling in her left hand, but could not explain how she was injured.
Solomon was found sitting outside the main entrance of the grocery store and demanded he be taken into custody.
The suspect’s father arrives at Publix and flags the officer saying his son has recently been placed under the bakery’s act. He claimed that Solomon began living with his mother in Arcadia two years ago and had no behavioral or mental health issues until he was involved in “the wrong crowd,” the report said.
Solomon was taken to Lee County Jail on charges of attempted second-degree murder.
