Legoland Florida Theme Park has confirmed the opening date for the Galactic Coaster. The indoor family roller coaster will debut on February 27th.
The development of this screaming machine was announced in March, the theme was identified in July, and the name was revealed in September. The grand opening date was announced before the holiday tree lighting ceremony at the Winter Haven attraction, and the date was announced as part of the drone show. The event also featured Lego space creatures and real-life space gal Emily Calandrelli, a science communicator and host of the TV show Explorations Outer Space.
Legoland California is also building the Galactic Coaster, part of a $90 million investment in the park by owner Merlin Entertainments Group. The West Coast version will be released on March 6th.
Merlin Chief Operating Officer Rob Smith said at last month’s IAAPA Expo that the new rides will allow users to customize digital versions of their rides. He said riders will select key elements such as the nose, tail, wings and color of the spacecraft via RRID technology on their wristbands. There are 625 possible combinations. The ride’s story involves passengers trying to avoid a “potentially destructive asteroid.”

Construction of the coaster is complete and Legoland Florida is currently testing the ride and its special effects.
The Galactic Coaster seats four people in a row and can reach speeds of up to 40 miles per hour. Height requirement is 48 inches (40 inches if accompanied by an adult).
