Joan, a fabric and craft store that has become ubiquitous throughout the US, is about to close more than half of its locations, with Florida among the most intense states.
According to the list, Joan, a retailer posted on the restructuring website, has closed 500 of its 800 locations, of which 36 are in Sunshine State. (California is losing even more, with 61 stores on the list.) It leaves 12 Joans left in Florida.
The struggling retailer filed for bankruptcy after securing about $132 million in new funding in March 2024, heading towards $1 billion in debt. The company had floated, choosing to become private. However, in January, the rash of store closures continued before the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy again, “helping the sales process to maximize the value of its business.”
“This was a very difficult decision given the huge impact that it will have on the team members, our customers, and all the communities we serve,” Joan said in a statement to USA Today on Wednesday. “Store performance and strategic and appropriate analysis of future strategically determined which stores should continue to operate normally at this point.”
When will the Joan store be closed?
On Wednesday, Joanne filed a motion seeking court authorities closing around 500 stores.
“If the claim is approved by the court, sales will begin on Saturday, February 15th,” Joanne spokesman Amanda Hayes told TCPALM.com. Shifts from store to store. โ
