Joanne has reportedly made roughly 500 of the 800 Storesmore Joann Stores, which have been closed in Florida than other states after California sales began on Saturday, February 15, 2025. The company said it will get approval from the court to close it.
Normal Joanne shoppers have been watching it come for a while.
Empty shelf. Few employees. Reduced time in some locations. Joan filed for bankruptcy last year, and last week’s announcement by the company was not surprised that more than half of fabric and craft stores across the country will be closing.
“I went into Joan yesterday and it literally looked like a tornado had passed,” the X user, named the great Aunt Fermildahid, posted in January. “It’s a pile of products that are everywhere, but there are plenty of empty shelves. The ones that sell overflowed with bottles and lay on the floor. I got out of there as soon as possible.”
In Blueski, Kim Madsen said, “No stock with empty shelves, lots of crafts, etc. There are few employees here. Sad. There are no many ‘craft/fabric’ stores left.”
On Friday, February 14th, Joan approved closing around 500 of the 800 locations, according to the retailer’s restructuring website. Florida is attacked violently, losing 36 places and holding only 12 places.
The struggling retailer filed for bankruptcy after securing about $132 million in new funding in March 2024, heading towards $1 billion in debt. The company had floated, choosing to become private. However, in January, the rash of store closures continued before the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy again, “helping the sales process to maximize the value of its business.”
“This was a very difficult decision given the huge impact that it has on the team members, our customers, and all the communities we serve,” Joan said in a statement last week to USA Today. “Store performance and strategic and appropriate analysis of future strategically determined which stores should continue to operate normally at this point.”
When will the Joan store be closed? When will non-business sales begin?
Joanne’s spokesman Amanda Hayes said out-of-business sales were scheduled to begin on Saturday, February 15th. “We don’t know how long they’ll run. Plus, the timeline may change and may shift from store to store.”
“We are expected to see store closures over the coming months, but some stores may close within a short period of time,” the restructuring site said.
Does Joanne accept Joanne’s gift cards? Can I return my purchase?
According to the restructuring site, Joan is not currently accepting gift cards. Discounts for Girl Scouts, Teachers, Military and Healthcare will also be suspended.
Joanne does not accept returns.
