Why do Civil War leaders pay homage to Florida’s holidays? |Line, May 18th
Not so stupid
The letterwriter expressed the idea of a “silly question” about a column about how Florida honors the two traitors to the United States on state holidays. Yes, at one point, the two men served in honor of their country, but their honor was lost when they resigned to repeat the civil war.
Jefferson Davis and Robert E. Lee committed treason, along with many other soldiers who made oaths to the Constitution and subsequently fought against their country. After they lost, each should have been tried for treason and suffered the fate of the traitors who fought their nation. On state holidays, there are no schools or military facilities named after them. The Lost Cause is a campaign that whitewashs the true history of the civil war, and Florida continues to support this concept.

A scary thought
It’s a scary idea to have a holiday to honor Confederate General Robert E. Lee and Confederate President Jefferson Davis. They did not serve our country. They provided an opposition version of it. Perhaps writers like him and others approve of the Confederate Constitution signed by Jefferson Davis. The document protected the spread of slavery into the western region, saying that slaves could be taken anywhere as they are property. Article 1, Section 9 is engraved in the law that slavery cannot be restricted in any way. If these traitors of our country won the war, then the Floridians lived in Confederate states in the United States. There, slavery and the associated fears will become the law of the land. The questions are: Does the letter writer want the Confederates to win?
