st. Augustine, Fla. (WFLA) – The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office shared a video showing how women used the 911 text feature when they didn’t feel safe enough to speak up loudly, and how officers responded accordingly.
Early on Monday morning, deputies responded to the residence after his brother broke into the house and received a 911 text from a woman who was afraid of her life after being armed with a machete.
“My brother is breaking into my house and threatening to kill me. I’m scared he’ll do it before he can come here,” the woman writes.
Discretion was key for responding lawmakers, as the woman feared she would see her first responder arrive.
“I’m scared he’s going to hurt me, not have their lights,” the victim wrote.
The suspect, identified as 35-year-old Justin Troylock, had untook the victim from outside his bedroom door after the break-in, the arrest report said.
“Do you have a pistol in your hand? Because you’re going to need it,” he reportedly told the victim. He then lit the paper towel against the fire and began to place it under the door, and the victim told police that he could see the smoke and flames from where she was in the bedroom.
Rock initially ignored the police order to come outside the house and threw a can of coke at the officer standing outside. After being hit three times in a 40mm “non-fatal” round, he complied and was taken into custody.
Locke was charged with felony robbery, attempted arson, resisted the officer with violence, and attempted misdemeanor attacks.
The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office reminded 911 that texting 911 is an option in situations where people cannot make a call.
“If possible, call, text if you can,” they wrote on Facebook.
