TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WFLA) – Havoc erupted on Florida State University campus Thursday afternoon after an active shooter fired at a student union building.
JB Biunno spoke with Christopher Malave, a current student and former WFLA intern, about what happened.
“The scary thing”: President Trump speaks about FSU shooting
“I saw students come across the building and I’m sure I’ve heard someone say they’re an active shooter,” Marav said. “After I left the union, I hid behind some bushes and hid behind the bushes that seemed to be outside the union for a few minutes, and that was when I heard of a few shots.
“It seemed to be pretty quick and continuous, so I think it was an automatic gunshot.”
The student said he did not see the shooter, but after hearing gunshots he witnessed people running near the building where the incident was believed to have occurred.
Marav said he didn’t think this would happen to him.
“I appreciate the Lord that I’m safe,” he said. “I was able to put it back in my car in one piece, very minor cuts and stuff like that.”
Law enforcement has proven they “neutralized the threat” and the suspects were taken to police custody, according to a Tallahassee police spokesperson.
At least six people were hospitalized, in serious condition and one was in critical condition.
One death has been reported, according to NBC News.
