(News Nation) – IKEA recalled over 54,000 garlic presses due to potential lacerations and risks of ingestion.
The recall was announced on July 31st, affecting approximately 43,830 IKEA 365+Värdefull items in the US, and in Canada it sold for $8 each from March to May 2024, along with an additional 10,700 units.
The recall was issued because small pieces of metal from the press could collapse by “substantial lacerations or ingestion risks to the consumer,” according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
There were 10 incidents involving a globally reported garlic press, three of which were related to reports of lacerations and finger splints. No incidents have been reported in the US
The recall encourages consumers to immediately stop using the garlic press and return it to the IKEA store for a full refund. If direct returns are not possible, consumers can contact IKEA for instructions on how to dispose of the product.
Only models with the IKEA logo on the top of the handle are included in the recall.
