News Myrna Beach, Fla. (WFLA) – A teenage surfer described a horrifying encounter with a shark along a Florida beach that landed him in a hospital.

Sam Hollis, 18, said he spoke to NBC affiliate WESH from his hospital bed.

His legs were hanging as he went up to the board. He said he didn’t see the shark swimming at him.

“[It] I grabbed me with my feet and pulled me off my board and said, ‘Yeah, I’m going to get you for a little snackman,'” Hollis told Wesi.

The kick scared the shark and Hollis managed to swim despite leaving him with his injured leg.

Despite the injuries, Hollis said he would return to the water as soon as he was healed.

“Just because something bad happened to you, there’s no reason to stop loving,” Hollis told Wesi.
