The old saying goes, “Explain to me like I’m 5.” This method helps to unlock problems that make your face look overly complicated, but don’t have to be. Let’s try it out on this hope of Florida’s fiasco.
How should we help the poor?
Thank you for asking, it’s so kind! In general, there are two big ideas in the US. One side believes that humans have a responsibility to care for each other by putting money in a pot that everyone can use. We call this “government.” Another believes people should keep their money and rely on places outside the government when necessary. There are various beliefs while it doesn’t fit into a bumper sticker.
What do you think of Florida?
Floridians believe in all kinds of things! For example, some people think that Hey Dudes is a great-looking shoe. Some people don’t think there’s a need to wear pants in the mall.
The Florida government is led by Ron DeSantis. His wife is Casey DeSantis. They believe in the second thing. The part about government being more handoffs, not the trousers. They hope that fewer people will use Medicaid, a government program that supports low-income people, children, and people with disabilities.
got it! What are they doing about it?
They set up this program called Hope Florida. It is supposed to bring together those struggling with the help of the church and charity. Credit for this idea will be sent to Casey DeSantis.
that’s nice.
Yes, that’s good.
Are they doing that?
Well, we don’t know. They say they are, but they refuse to prove it. It’s like when Susie said she went to Disney, but there’s no picture outside the continental breakfast line so I’m sure she just went to the Mouse O Lama Motel.
So is my father walking around with his newspapers clutching his quarters in a vow jar?
Perhaps, but he is probably even more upset at the scandal going on.
Hope Florida has its own charity known as the Hope Florida Foundation. This is different from the program Hope Florida.
Is the charity part good at keeping the record of the work?
Haha, no.
I have to hand over homework. Why don’t they?
That’s when some people learn to run away with cheating.
Yes, like Tanner and his spell test.
This part is difficult, so try to follow it.
Susie’s parents said they agreed to pay $150 to stay at Mouse-O-Rama Motel, but somehow they were charged for $170. The people at Mouse-O-Rama have $20 that they shouldn’t have.
Shouldn’t they pay back the money to Susie’s parents?
Yes, in theory. But they don’t. Instead, they call the guy and understand the plans they like. I’m called him James. James told the people of Mouse-o-Lama, “Let’s make a deal. Instead of paying $20 back to Susie’s parents, we’ll give it to a charity that helps those in need.”

Suppose a charity gets $20. However, the charity gives the other groups money, then returns $20 to James and his friends, and spends $20 on personal purchases like nerd gummy clusters.
It seems like a flashy steal.
yes! You’re fine!
The same thing happened in the Florida government, but instead of $20, that number was $10 million.
Wow, that’s a lot.
Ah, certainly. The $10 million appears to be owed to taxpayers, Susie’s parents, those who lacked the big bucket we talked about. However, the Hope Florida Foundation accepted $10 million, giving it to what his father calls “&$% #Dark Money Groups.” These groups then used the money to fund the causes that helped DeSantis.
Isn’t it illegal?
yes!
Did they say sorry and return the money?
No, people in the industry denying that they did something wrong and are angry at reporters who find it. They are even upset by their friends. It’s like when Tanner criticized Miss Wilson for giving him a spelling.
Why don’t they accept it? Don’t we teach us to know the right thing from what is wrong?
Well, Kid, you’re right. But this is the biggest lesson of everything. Many of the people in power think they are too stupid to understand.
