A section of Orange County’s famous International Drive could soon honor late hotel mogul and philanthropist Harris Rosen.
Two central Florida legislators have introduced a bill that would designate a stretch of the tourist corridor between State Route 528 and Sand Lake Road as the “Harris Rosen Way.” This part of the i-drive includes several Rosen hotels.
Rosen, the founder of Florida’s largest independent hotel chain and one of Orlando’s most prominent philanthropic donors, died Nov. 25 at the age of 85.
“Through his dedication and unwavering work ethic, he embodied the pursuit of the American Dream and inspired others along the way,” state Sen. Kissimmee, D-Kissimmee, one of the bill’s sponsors, said in a statement. It inspired people.”
The homage is a way to “carry on his amazing legacy,” said state Rep. Rita Harris, D-Orlando, who sponsored the bill in her Florida home.

According to state law, the legislative designation is honorary and does not require local governments or private entities to change street signs or mailing addresses. The Florida Department of Transportation will erect a marker and attach Rosen’s name to the i-drive.
Rosen launched his hospitality empire in 1974 with the purchase of a 256-room quality inn on I-drive. Over the years, Rosen Hotels & Resorts has expanded to include seven properties with more than 6,300 guest rooms and employs more than 4,000 people.
Beyond his business accomplishments, Rosen is known for his philanthropic efforts, including funding free preschool education and providing college and vocational scholarships to children in the Tangelo Park and Parramore neighborhoods. I remember.
The designation is a “tremendous honor” and “a testament to how he lived his life so well: with determination, heart, and always the way he did,” Rosen’s daughter, Shaina Pothier, said in a statement. Ta.
“As a powerful reminder of his legacy and lifelong beliefs, Harris Rosen Way will further etch his enduring mark into his beloved community by doing the right thing,” she said. I did.
Rosen Hotels & Resorts is currently under the leadership of CEO Frank Santos. CEO Frank Santos is a longtime Rosen associate who has ruled out selling the company and has vowed to continue the founder’s vision.
The bill will be considered during the regular 60-day session of the Florida Legislature, which begins in March.
