NEW YORK (AP) – About 3.6 million hoses have been recalled in the US as hundreds have burst into motion during use, resulting in at least 29 injuries, including temporary reports of hearing loss.
The Recall covers the 5/8 inch “expandable burstproof hose” from the hydrotech brand, sold by major retailers such as Amazon, Walmart, Home Depot and Target for garden, lawn care, charcoal cleaning and other applications between January 2021 and April 2025.
The company said that mitigation of plastic stocks in the interior “can cause the hose to burst if it breaks or is not fully read.
A recalled hose poses potential consequences and hearing dangers as it can burst unexpectedly, according to a notice Thursday from the US Consumer Product Safety Commission. Winston products that imported the hose have received at least 222 reports of rupture so far. The result was 29 injuries.
Consumers who own recalled hoses are promptly urged to stop using them immediately. If the hose is purchased with ACE hardware, a Thursday recall notification will be added if Home Depot or Walmart does its best. Consumers can take it to those stores and return the product for a full refund. Other affected shoppers should contact Winston products to initiate billing online.
The hose under the recall was sold in a variety of lengths and colors, but can be identified by date code markings and product names listed in the Thursday notification. The recall only covers the “Hydrotech 5/8″ expandable burstproof hose” made before August 31, 2024.
