On Saturday, President Donald Trump announced that US troops had attacked three Iranian sites related to the country’s nuclear program.
“The full payload of the bomb has been dropped on the main site, Fordow,” Trump posted on social media site Truth Social. “All the planes are on their way home.”
The American bombing campaign represents a new escalation in the conflict between Iran and Israel. It is unclear how Iran will respond.
CBS News reported that Americans hope to drop “bunkerbuster” bombs at nuclear sites and penetrate underground infrastructure. In a White House speech shortly after 10pm, Trump added that Iran’s nuclear capabilities had been “decapitated” and that if Iran doesn’t surrender, there will be future attacks.
“There will be peace, there will be tragedy in Iran,” Trump said. “Remember, there are many targets remaining.”
Iranian President Masuud Pezeshkian on Sunday condemned the US attacks on three Iranian nuclear sites.
“The attack showed that the United States is the leading instigator of the hostile actions of the Zionist regime against Iran’s Islamic Republic,” Pezeshkian said on Sunday. “They initially tried to deny their role, but after the decisive and deterrent response of our military and the apparent incompetence of the Zionist regime, they were inevitably forced to enter the fields themselves.”
This is what Florida leaders had to say.
Republican US Senator Rick Scott
@potus! Peace through power!
Republican US Senator Ashley Moody
This is a solid and important moment for security and peace. We stand and pray for the President, the service members who carried out this mission, and those affected by this conflict.
Republican Governor Ron DeSantis
President Trump has consistently corrected Iran’s inability to have nuclear weapons.
During the Biden administration, Iran was on a surefire path to nuclear weapons. Thanks to Operation Midnight Hammer, these nuclear ambitions have been reduced to much more fetched dreams.
We don’t know how Iran will respond, but efforts to rescue Floridians from Israel’s war zone will continue.
Republican US lawmaker Randyfine
“Donald Trump never disappointed us.”
I wrote this when I supported him returning as president after October 7, 2023.
I knew when the world needed him he was there to save it.
The bomb is far away.
Republican Rep. Anna Paulina Luna
May God protect and maintain many of our foreign employees and many of the State Department’s men and women until our brave members of our service safely return home.
Pray for our country.
Peace is needed.
Republican Rep. Aaron Bean
That had to be done
Republican US Rep. Mario Diaz Ballat
I will stand with @Realdonaldtrump Commander @RealdonaldTrump by ensuring that the Iranian terrorist regime never acquires nuclear weapons. We are proud of our extraordinary army and are proud to stand up to our allies, Israel.
Republican Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar
Thank you, President Trump, for guiding us to strength and clarity. Iran should never be allowed to obtain nuclear weapons. May God protect our army and peace win through strength.
Republican US Rep. Greg Stube
President Trump has made every effort to give Iran a peaceful off-ramp to dismantle its nuclear ambitions. Refusing to negotiate in good faith, Ayatollah confirms that we have known for a long time. Iran cannot be trusted with nuclear weapons.
I am deeply grateful that men and women with courage and courage have carried out their mission with courage and accuracy. And I would like to thank President Trump for his definitive leadership during this important moment.
Former Republican US Rep. Matt Gaetz
President Trump essentially hopes this will become something like a Solimani strike. There is no war of change of government. Play cards to Peace Maker!
Democrat Maxwell Frost
Trump’s decision to unilaterally drop bombs on multiple nuclear sites in Iran is reckless and dangerous, and most of all, doing so without Congress’ approval is violently unconstitutional.
To assert “now is a time of peace” is total nonsense after bombing the country, and it goes against the will of the majority of Americans who do not want to be involved in another endless, deadly conflict in the Middle East.
This is a dangerous escalation that puts countless lives at risk, including the US troops in the region. Congress must re-ralise immediately to prevent Trump from driving us into a totally tragic war.
Nikki Fried, Democratic Chairman of Florida
“I learned about Iran’s US bombing just after taking the stage at the annual Florida Democrats’ Leadership Blue Conference last night.
In a room of about 1,000 people, opinions and feelings ran deep into every aspect of the issue. But the clear understanding that what connects the majority of Americans with the majority of the world is not the leader Donald Trump needs at this point.
In an administration run unlawfully and executed with chaos, lies and ignorance, Trump does not own the wisdom of a great leader. He has castrated all intelligence agencies and avoided all professional military generals, so he is not equipped to deal with this crisis.
It is shameful that he is politicizing key moments in world history by excluding Democratic leaders and including only Republicans in his war decisions.
Iran should not have nuclear weapons, but Donald Trump cannot trust us to choose what’s best for our country. I pray for the safety of our military and call on the President to bring this issue immediately before Congress, as the Constitution demands. ”
Democratic state legislator Anna Escamani
The US is at the pinnacle of the war with Iran, but the American people have no positive explanations, evidence, or clear reasons…
