TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – Hillsboro County leaders will hold a meeting Tuesday evening to confirm post-disaster recovery plans.
Leaders said the goal of the plan is to create a stronger community to move forward after the crisis.
This is all part of a larger community plan, and the county wants to hear when residents explain the details.
It has been 15 years since Hillsboro County last developed its post-disaster redevelopment plan, and in the meantime, massive growth has changed the game.
The county said it means more people and homes will experience more damage during the storm.
They now want to hear from the community about the damage caused by the hurricane last year.
“We want you to let us know if we’ve experienced any kind of flooding, wind damage, or any kind of inconsistency with support. All of these make a difference in creating a comprehensive plan for the county,” CK Moore said.
Funds to create a new plan come from the 2022 federal grant.
Officials say the goal is to help counties develop ways to recover faster after a disaster and help them strengthen their infrastructure.
The Hillsboro plan works in conjunction with surrounding local governments when disasters occur.
“We’re getting together with Hernando County, Pinellas County and Tampa City and creating a local plan to support each other,” Moore said.
The county hopes to roll out new plans by the fall, and said that feedback from the community is important to ensure they get it right.
“The big thing is telling your story and sharing your story with us. That’s how we can take all that input and feedback and make sure this plan touches everyone,” Moore said.
The meeting will be fed to Tampa Bay on Tuesday, July 15th at 6:30am. For those who can’t do it in person, the county has a way to give feedback online. Click here for more information.
