Hillsboro County, Fla. (WFLA) – Hillsboro County is considering plans and safety measures to keep you safe during this hurricane season.
The season begins on June 1st.
The first responders looked at the technology that must respond to people in need with a variety of tools, equipment and technologies Thursday morning.
The county is pulling out all stops so that every call can be answered.
They bought four sherp cars last year due to all the floods the county saw.
“They can go to high terrain, low terrain and they can go through the water,” said Battalion Chief Rodney Castro.
The vehicle arrived just before Hurricane Milton hit.
“They are incredible assets and were subjected to one major evacuation in the USF area last year. They were able to use Shape, five marine units and six T-SAR teams. We were there for about an hour.
These deep sea vehicles are not the only tools in the toolbox. There are also rescue teams, jet skis, special blankets, and more, which help to consume electric vehicles’ fires.
“After seeing some of those vehicles fires, we were able to buy them during the storm. We realized we needed them,” said Dave Beat of the Battalion.
If electric vehicles mix with salt water, they can be extremely dangerous.
“It’s like the battery cells burn with the domino effect, like burning other cells. The problem is that when they keep burning, they keep getting hotter, hotter, hotter, and hotter. So it’s very difficult to get it out with water,” Bute said.
The county is being prepared and they also said people need to pack emergency kits to plan and evacuate early.
Another thing the first responder said is to know which evacuation zone you are in, which is essential for your safety. All you have to do is click this link and enter it in the address.
