Pompano Beach, Fla. (WFLA) – A Haitian woman died in Florida detention center last week under the control of a US immigration and customs enforcement agency, ICE officials announced Tuesday.
Marie Ange Blaise, 44, passed away on April 25th at the Broward Transitional Centre in Pompano Beach.
Her cause of death is under investigation.
According to Ice, Blaise entered the United States without admission or parole. US Customs and Border Protection stopped her on February 12 as she was preparing to board a flight to Charlotte, North Carolina from the St. Croix airport in the US Virgin Islands.
In a statement, Ice said Blaise does not have a valid immigration visa. She was issued a notification of rapid removal and transferred to custody of Ice Enforcement and Removal Operation Miami at the San Juan staging facility in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

A week later she was taken to Richwood Correctional Center in Oakdale, Louisiana. Officials say Blaze has been at the Broward Transitional Center since April 5th.
“ICE remains committed to ensuring that all people under its custody exist in a safe, safe and humane environment,” Ice said in a statement. “Comprehensive care will be provided from the entire time an individual arrives and stays. All those with ice custody will receive medical, dental and mental health screenings and 24-hour emergency care at each detention facility.
Data showed that at least six people died in ICE custody in 2025, which began in October.
