TALHASSEE, Fla. (WFLA) – Gov. Ron DeSantis held a press conference Wednesday on immigration and the revitalization of the 287(g) program.

In his speech, Desantis announced a revamp of the program that would allow for full cooperation between Florida law enforcement and US landlords.

The program grants Florida law enforcement officers the ability to perform the functions of special immigration officers under Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency (ICE).

According to the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement webpage, the 287(g) program is a section supplement to the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1996.

Riary Keefe, executive director of the state Immigration Executive Committee, Roger Young, executive director of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Committee, and Florida State Guard Mark Thiem also appeared.
