TALHASSEE, Fla. (WFLA) – The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Committee (FWC) announced the winners of the 2025 Florida Python Challenge™ on Wednesday.
The challenge is a 10-day competition depicting 934 participants from 30 provinces, including Canada, to support the conservation of the Everglades.
This year, the candidates removed 294 invasive Burma Pisons from South Florida. These non-native species pose a serious threat to the wild wildlife that inhabits this area.
“The record number of invasive pythons removed from the Everglades during this year’s competition is a major victory for native wildlife. Over 1,400 pythons have been removed at all previous Florida Python Challenge events, and more than 16,000 pythons have been removed since 2017 by the FWC and South Florida Water Management District Contractors. Ecosystems,” said FWC Chairman Rodney Barrett.
