The U.S. Department of State’s Education and Culture Department recognized that Florida State University is one of the universities across the country, with the highest number of faculty and administrators selected for the Fulbright US Scholars Program, and one of the universities.

“This perception is an important indicator of faculty efforts to reach out and engage with partners in different regions around the world in research and education,” said Stephen McDowell, FSU assistant provost for international initiatives. “It also demonstrates the value of investments by universities to support faculty in these efforts. We are pleased to celebrate their important achievements.”
Six faculty scholars and one postdoctoral researcher from FSU were selected for the Fulbright US Scholars Program Award for the 2024-2025 grade. FSU has 191 faculty members selected since the program began.
The Fulbright Program is the US government’s flagship international academic exchange program. Since 1946, the Fulbright Program has provided over 400,000 talented students, academics, teachers, artists and professionals from all backgrounds. Fulbrighters exchange ideas, build connections between people, and work to address complex global challenges.
Seven Fulbright scholars from FSU in this year crossed Sweden, Colombia, Italy, India, Germany and Finland to conduct research in related fields.
Nora Underwood, a professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Arts and Sciences, studied the effects of climate on plant and bird phenology at Stockholm University in Sweden. Diana Lopez is a postdoctoral associate of the Faculty of Biological Sciences at the University of Arts and Sciences, where she studied coral physiology on Golgona Island, Colombia. Manic Moekherjee, a professor in the Department of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Arts and Sciences, studied trace amounts of water in crustal rocks in India. Vincent Salters, director of the Geochemical Program at the National Institute for High Magnetic Fields, is a professor in the Department of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences, studying the mantle and separation of the Earth through central ridge volcanism at the University of Munster, Germany. Shuyuan Ho Metcalfe, an associate professor in the Faculty of Information Studies in the Faculty of Communication and Information Studies, studied the perception and traceability of anonymous communication for global cyber defense in Bologna, Italy. Daekwan Kim, Dr. MBA Professor Spencer Ferry of the PersisE. Rockwood Marketing of Marketing of Business studied the implications of performance and sustainability in global and regional industries at the University of Vaasa in Finland. Gang One, Associate Professor Madeline Duncan Roland and Director of the PhD Programme, and Organizational Behavior and Human Resources and Strategy major in the Department of Business Administration at the University of Business, studied leadership, acquisition premiums and human resources management in Helsinki, Finland.

“I was constantly impressed by the work that FSU faculty does through the Fulbright program,” Wright Klebrand said. “From physics to music, FSU faculty share research, pedagogy and curriculum with foreign faculty, administrators and students. Additionally, they have returned to FSU’s new collaboration, expanding their research and honing their skills. We can’t imagine any professional development that is better than the Fulbright Scholars program. Congratulations to our faculty.”
Fulbright is a US State Department program and is funded by the US government. Participating governments, host institutions, businesses, and foundations around the world also provide direct and indirect support for the program.
Fulbright alumni work to make a positive impact on the community, sector and the world, with 44 state or government heads, 62 Nobel Prize winners, 90 Pulitzer Prize winners, 82 MacArthur Fellows and countless leaders and changemakers building mutual understanding between people in the US and other countries.
