TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Florida State University held an overnight stay Friday honoring victims of campus shootings.
One vigil took place at noon, and student volunteers called for action groups for Florida State University and Florida A&M gatherings at Cascade Park.
Another vigil began at 5pm at Langford Green in front of the unconquered statue.
Two people died, six people were injured in a shooting at Florida State University, police say
The university said support centres will be available to the campus community at Askew Student Life Center on Friday from 8am to 5pm.
All classes and events held by the university have been cancelled as authorities continue to investigate the shootings.
Students will also be able to retrieve their belongings left on campus from 10am to 2pm today.
The campus building is locked, but staff and volunteers are on site to help. Students need an ID to request their belongings.
Police are looking for motives in a deadly shooting at FSU
FSU President Richard McCullough issued a statement Thursday evening updating the community.
“Today, we experienced tragic, meaningless acts of violence at the heart of campus,” he writes. “Now our focus is to take care of people.”
Students and other community members began collecting memorials on campus last night.
The university is just weeks away from the finals that take place in the first week of May and the 2025 opening ceremony.
