ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) – Two 4-year-old children are in critical condition after being shot inside an Orange County home.
Deputies responded to a call at AdventHealth East Orlando on Nov. 8 around 2 p.m., where staff told them two 4-year-old twins had sustained gunshot wounds.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office interviewed the parents, Keishara Goodrum and Maurice Bright Jr., who did not witness the incident, but both told police they heard a loud “pop” inside the home.
After hearing a loud “pop,” their mother, Keishala, was in the kitchen and noticed one of the twins had a wound when he raised his arm.
Deputies said Maurice, who was in the backyard, also saw the injuries and rushed to grab one of the twins.
When they got in the car to take the twins to the hospital, the other twin was in pain and both parents saw a lot of blood on his shirt. They determined he was also injured.
In an interview with Keishara, she said she was at home on November 7th and consumed a large amount of alcohol. She grabbed a handgun and placed the firearm under a couch cushion because she did not have clothing with a waistband.
Keishara Goodrum was arrested on two counts of child neglect resulting in great bodily harm.
Maurice Bright Jr. was arrested for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The twins were taken to Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital in critical but stable condition.
