DELAND, Fla. (WFLA) – A former Miami University college athlete has been arrested in connection with a murder at a bar near Orlando over the weekend.
The Deland Police Department and the Volsia County Sheriff’s Office responded to the shooting at a bar in McCabe at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday.
Witnesses told investigators that a fight broke out inside the bar and one of the men began shooting.

The suspect shot the victim Keshod Harris, 32, multiple times in the chest and a bartender in his hand, Deland police said.
Harris was taken to a local hospital where he died of injuries.
The bartender was taken to a nearby hospital with a life-threatening injury.

During the investigation, the Deland Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Bureau determined that the shooter was 24-year-old Avantae Williams.
Police said about 40 people were inside McCabe’s bar on the night of the shooting.
According to ESPN, Williams was a defensive back who played at Miami University from 2021 to 2023 and then played for Maryland Terrapin from 2023 to 2024.
