A former Key West firefighter was arrested after authorities discovered a detailed diagram of the city’s infrastructure inside his residence, a cache of weapons, a bomb-making parts, and a detailed diagram.

According to a report from Keys Weekly and a statement from the main West Police Station, law enforcement officials executed search warrants in private homes, revealing a schematic of firearms, materials commonly used in creating explosives, and various important areas around the city.

Authorities have not yet revealed what the former firefighters were intent, but the existence of such material, coupled with the illustrations, raised serious concern among local officials and residents.

Individuals previously employed by Key West Fire Station face multiple charges as the investigation continues. Law enforcement is working closely with federal authorities to determine whether there is a wider threat to the community.

Keys Weekly reported that police are urging anyone with additional information to come when assessing the full scope of the situation.
