
This week is Florida’s severe weather recognition week.
The National Weather Service highlights different dangers each day between February 3rd and February 7th. If you have a weather warning radio, check out today’s tornado drill.

“We’re excited to be able to help you get started,” said Kevin Guthrie, executive director of Florida Emergency Management.
“From hurricanes and tornadoes to thunderstorms and floods, bad weather can always be a hit. Planning, maintaining information and knowing how to respond is key to staying safe.”
Weather warning issued in Florida
Tornado drills scheduled for Wednesday, February 5th
The weather-allowed tornado drills are scheduled for around 10am on EST, according to the Florida Department of Emergency Services. If severe weather is expected on Wednesday, the drill will be postponed to 10am ET on Friday, February 7th.
“School districts, private schools, kindergartens and daycare centers are encouraged to participate in drills and prepare teachers and students what to do for potential tornado activities,” the agency said. Ta.
The tornado drill will be sent via weather radio, said Megan Trefsen, a Melbourne meteorologist with the National Weather Service. It doesn’t trigger Florida’s emergency warning system and you won’t get an alert on the phone.

What is Florida’s harsh weather recognition week?
This week is a collaborative effort between the National Weather Service and the Florida emergency management department, aimed at encountering residents “recognizing severe weather risks.”
The agency said it “want to ensure that Florida residents and visitors are better informed and prepared for potentially inclement weather.”
