st. Augustine, Fla. (WFLA) – A Florida woman who fought a cheating criminal last month was awarded the award Thursday.

The St. John’s County Sheriff’s Office said it gave the 18-year-old Emma Marines her first “Fightback Award.”

On June 29, deputies said that a Marine was working at a smoke shop in St. Augustine when the man entered the store, stole the goods and tried to lure her.

Surveillance video captured the Marines screaming with the attacker.

The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office has released surveillance video that allegedly attempted an invitation in St. Augustine, Florida, on June 28, 2025 (St. Johns Sheriff’s Office).

“She did it all right, screamed, fought back, ran away,” Brian Anderson Needham said in self-defense with weapons brands.

“Her strength is a living reminder of the meaning of fighting back in the face of violence and regaining power,” the Sheriff’s Office said.
