PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (WFLA) – A Florida woman faces charges of animal cruelty after her dog barely finds her urine standing and her face trapped in matte fur.
In December 2024, Charlotte County animal control was notified to poor condition dogs under the care of the owner, 45-year-old Diana holder.

Officials said that a Yorkie Mix named Odie had severely covered fur all over her body.

“We couldn’t even know where the front of the dog was behind the dog,” Animal Control Officer Brian Jones told NBC affiliate WBBH.
Odie was subjected to immediate general anesthesia for the examination and removed the matte fur. This turns out to be a few inches in length and width. The report said the dog had an ear infection, no skin ulcers and was unable to see, but WBBH said Odie had ruptured eyes, very tongue nails and pain.
Animal Control Services decided that the owner had abandoned her animal, causing “unnecessary pain and suffering,” the affidavit said.

WBBH said the 15-year-old Shitzu Yorkie mix has suffered years of torture from his holders for not grooming him. Holder handed over Oddy to a local shelter and informed him that he was unable to care for him due to hand issues.

“It shouldn’t have really lasted long,” Jones added. “For people who may have financial constraints, physical constraints, there are all kinds of things you can do.”
Unfortunately, Odie spent her last day at her hospice foster home before she passed away at her age, WBBH reported.
The department requested a monetary donation to the Charlotte County Animal Care Trust Fund.

After the warrant was signed last week, Holder was arrested at his Port Charlotte home over the weekend, facing charges of cruelty towards animals and confinement or abandonment of the animals. She is held on a $5,000 bond and cannot own an animal.
