HOMESTED, Fla. (WFLA) – A teacher at Homestead Charter School faces child abuse charges after police say they threw shoes and hit one of their students on their forehead.

The incident occurred in late February when 61-year-old Sandra Malta Colombo was teaching at a Waterstone charter school, according to an arrest report obtained by NBC 6 South Florida.

Witnesses in the classroom told investigators that Colombo threw sandals at a student who was “cheating” but missed it and attacked another child.

Another student said the teacher was trying to get someone else’s attention.

One student said Colombo reported “one hand throwing his shoes hard over his head.”

The victim said the shoes slammed her on the forehead, but police said she had no traces or bruises.

The victim also told investigators that Colombo said “I’m sorry,” then rubbed his forehead.

Colombo was placed in jail on child abuse charges on Wednesday and booked without major physical harm, NBC 6 reported.

According to her lawyer, Colombo has been teaching for 30 years. She was fired by the charter school after the incident in February.

The judge ordered Colombo to stay away from the victim and released her without restraint.
