CAPE CORAL, Fla. (WFLA) — A southwest Florida teacher could lose his job after being accused of showing up high on cocaine and allowing students to use e-cigarettes.

Lee County School District documents obtained by WBBH say the school district is moving to fire Nuria Acuna, a teacher at Cape Coral’s Island Coast High School.

Acuña is accused of being under the influence of cocaine in a classroom on Feb. 13. Documents say the teacher allowed students to vape in class and even allowed students to use her personal e-cigarettes. She was also accused of selling snacks and drinks to students.

When the allegations surfaced, the district suspended Mr. Acuña without pay. Lee County Schools Superintendent Dennis Carlin said she violated ethical standards and supports the recommendation for termination.

A hearing in the case is scheduled for next week.
