TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Florida lawmakers want to make it legal to allow hidden carry guns at universities.

In Florida, it is legal for those over the age of 21 to carry a gun without a permit, except on school campuses that are considered a gunless zone.

Senator Randy Fine (R) District 19 wants to change the law. He introduced laws that allowed people to legally carry hidden guns on university campuses.

“Schools are not the gun-free zone today. They are gun-free from people who follow the law,” the senator said. “Your second right to amendment doesn’t go on vacation because you go to college. So this basically gives adults the same hidden carry rights that are off campus. Masu.”

News Channel 8 reached USF and the University of Tampa for comment but did not respond.

Students had mixed feelings about the proposal.

“I definitely don’t care if I’m scared, especially as the shootings are ongoing at all schools, especially as they’re heading to university campuses,” said Gillian Woodcom, a student at Utampa. .

“I don’t want them to have a gun,” said USF student Renee Agay.

“It’s definitely an extensive process and it feels fine, not just what you can do and grab with a day’s notification,” said Utampa student Anna Fuge.

Senator Fein says he wrote the bill after the Israel-Hamas war.

“We saw universities across the country prioritizing the safety of Muslim terrorists over students. We realized that students need to be able to protect themselves.” said the senator.

Cair (Council of America and Islamic Relations) Florida criticized the law in a statement.

“This bill is not necessary and makes students safer. Last year, many initiatives and security measures were taken to make Jewish students feel safer on campus. Manager. “Tallahassey is a life-sufficient The focus should be on saving and engage in peace. Instead, they put students at risk of more school mass shootings. They go to school in peace and feel safe from each other. You should be able to do that.”

Similar measures have been introduced in recent years, but they have not passed. However, the senator said he believes he can pass the measure.
