TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Florida insurance regulators fined a $100,000 property insurance company for a claim error in the wake of Hurricane Ian in 2022.

According to a consent order document provided by the Florida Department of Insurance Regulation, Centauri Specialty Insurance Company provided a disclosure statement in providing payments for claims that were not fully and final payments, as it failed to use a properly appointed coordinator.

Insurance regulators pointed to 168 instances using insurance adjusters that were not properly appointed. Florida law requires them to be licensed and appointed.

The office said Centauri “did not provide a specific disclosure statement when providing payments for claims that were not fully and final payments on the 141 instance.”

Centauri received a $100,000 fine plus $2,000 administrative fees. As part of the agreement, we have acknowledged that we may face administrative penalties if we violate the terms of the future consent order.
