TALHASSEE, Fla. (WFLA) — State lawmakers launched a 2025 legislative meeting examining state insurance companies claiming it had broken, simultaneously turning billions into affiliate companies.
The session is wrapped, so where is the investigation?
After an extended session that lasted 105 days, lawmakers left Tallahassee without further action on insurance concerns, despite holding an investigation raising a major red flag.
At the start of the legislative meeting, House members held hearings to question the state’s current and previous insurance regulators, imposing them on a secret study that revealed that Florida insurance companies were changing money while claiming they were breaking.
The “Boater Freedom Act” and 98 other new Florida laws come into effect on July 1st
At the first hearing, former and current commissioners of the Insurance Regulation Authority argued that the study was incomplete and stuck in draft mode.
However, at the second hearing, the authors of the Bombshell study said they believed it was perfect and that regulators never said it wasn’t.
Now, a few months later, as there are additional research into these concerns, are there still questions left? Will lawmakers get a full report? And are there any new laws to protect Floridians in the future?
“We started a session where there were many talks, and there were insurance companies that were moving profits to subsidiaries, and you know by doing this to make this seem misleading to the state.
But House Speaker Danny Perez said the House and Senate are considering growing concerns about insurance, including property insurance.
“We have internal discussions and feel comfortable working on behalf of the Senate for property insurance, which is part of the problem.
