Florida Republican writes letters in support of a big beautiful bill

Editor’s Note: On Monday, Rep. Vern Buchanan led an open letter to the people of Florida, co-signed by 11 members of the Florida Republican Congressional delegation, urging Congress to pass one big beautiful bill law and send it to President Donald Trump’s desk. This is a letter.

For the people of Florida:

This is a crucial time in our state as the US Congress discusses the passage of one big beautiful bill law, grow our economy, create jobs, and prevent the biggest tax rise in American history. We express our unified support for one big beautiful bill law and urge Congress to quickly send it to President Trump’s desk to sign the law.

Florida families will see an increase in wages and take-away wages under our laws through increased investment in workers, increased GDP growth and lower tax rates. Floridians will see long-term wages adjusted for inflation increase between $5,800 and $11,000, according to the Council on Economic Advisors. For a typical Florida family with two children, households would see a higher take-home wage between $7,500 and $12,700. Our bill doubles the permanently low tax rate and guaranteed standard deduction, permanently increasing the child tax credit, and prevents the average family from increasing the $1,700 tax rate. Coupled with increased access to paid leave and increased tax-enhancing tax incentives for childcare, newborn savings accounts, and adoption tax credits, one big beautiful bill law puts families first.

Florida’s tourism-driven economy also benefits from one big beautiful bill law that eliminates the tips for low- and medium-wage workers and taxes on overtime pay. More than 193,000 Sunshine state workers are employed as restaurant servers, making it one of the highest levels of employment in Florida. The tips make up about 21.3% of Florida restaurant workers’ income. In other words, these workers rely heavily on the generosity of their clients and believe that their revenues are highly unpredictable. Similarly, Floridians who have been paid for overtime, including brave men and women in law enforcement, go up and down each day to achieve their goals. Federal income tax exemption tips and overtime salaries provide financial security for hundreds of thousands of Floridians.

Millions of Florida seniors will put more money in their pockets and see real relief from our bill. The One Big Beautiful Bill Act offers an additional bonus of thousands of dollars on standard deductions for low and middle-income seniors. The provisions will support senior citizen planning for more than 5 million people, including medication and housing.

Our bill also supports 3 million small businesses in Florida by restoring and expanding major economic tax policies. The One Big Beautiful Bill Act will update 100% immediate or full costs, allowing small business owners to reinvest in their business. We are encouraging small businesses to invest and innovate in Florida by updating the immediate costs for research and development while making small businesses permanent. Our law also rewards new factories built in the US, creating thousands of jobs in Florida and overseeing critical supply chains. We stand with millions of small businesses in Florida. Florida will reach the highest tax rate of 43.4% if they don’t pass one big beautiful bill law.

In addition to Florida’s economic growth, our one big beautiful bill law will make Florida safe again. By providing billions of dollars of new funding to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and the U.S. Coast Guard, our bill will promote the removal of illegal criminal aliens and ensure the safety of all Floridians. We are hiring new ice officers, border patrols and immigration judges to expand our ability to eliminate illegal aliens. Our bill provides more than $20 billion in additional resources for the Coast Guard border security mission. This is important for protecting Florida’s coast. In April 2025, DHS, ICE, U.S. Customs and Border Patrol, and Florida demonstrated the urgent need for increased immigration resources through the largest joint immigration project in Florida history, arresting 1,120 criminal illegal aliens, including 378 people, including members of the MS-13 and Tren de Aragua. One big beautiful bill law revolutionizes our national security.

It also protects and strengthens Medicaid for American citizens who need it by eradicating waste, fraud and abuse and implementing common-sense work requirements. Critics of the bill’s Medicaid revision have not mentioned the millions of healthy adults who have access to Medicaid while refusing to work. Through the Affordable Care Act, Democrats have expanded Medicaid eligibility to include adults who have achieved 138% of federal poverty levels. Florida has not chosen to expand Medicaid into this group. The Economic Advisory Council estimates that under $1.5 billion in federal Medicaid dollars are being spent on childless, non-labor, healthy adults in Florida. This means that federal taxes for Florida subsidize Medicaid to healthy adults in a low-population, Democratic-run country. One big beautiful bill law enacts a common work requirement that increases labor participation and reserves Medicaid dollars for those who need it most.

One big beautiful bill law cuts taxes on hardworking families, seniors and small businesses, protects Medicaid and strengthens border security in the United States. We are committed to seeing this bill become law on behalf of all Floridians.

It was a Florida representative who signed the letter and participated. Aaron Bean, Byron Donald, Neil Dunn, Randy Fine, Carlos Guimenez, Mike Khalidpolos, Laurel Lee, Anna Paulina Luna, Brian Mast, Jimmy Patronis, and Daniel Webster.
