New study reveals which states have the fastest average EMS response times at Omega Law Group’s U.S. Personal Injury Lawyers EMS response time data for accidents resulting in at least one death in every U.S. state from 2018 to 2022 It was revealed that the .

After cleaning and analyzing this data, experts ranked states based on average EMS response times and compiled the total number of accidents and deaths during this period. Fastest average EMS response time on list for Rhode Island: 6.21 minutes. Florida rounds out the list at No. 10, with an average EMS response time of 8.47 minutes. This is only 2.26 minutes longer than Rhode Island.

“Rhode Island’s top-ranked response time of 6.21 minutes may be due to its status as the smallest state, which may reduce the geographic distance that EMS providers must cover.” said a spokesperson for Omega Law Group. “Furthermore, its relatively small population may reduce the burden on emergency services, resulting in faster response times overall.”

The states with the longest average EMS response times are spread across the country, but share a common challenge: vast rural areas.

“Wyoming and Alaska face unique challenges in providing timely emergency medical care in sparsely populated landscapes. Even populous California struggles with long response times.

“Long EMS response times pose significant risks to accident victims. Delays in medical care can worsen injuries, reduce survival rates, and lead to serious damages and complex legal issues.

“These numbers highlight the need for improved emergency response infrastructure, resources and innovative solutions in these states.”

Massachusetts took second place with an average of 6.34 minutes, just 13 seconds less than the first spot.

Nevada takes the third spot on the list with an average EMS response time of 6.44 minutes.

Fourth place goes to Connecticut. Connecticut is a state with an average EMS response time of 7.09 minutes.

Delaware is the fifth fastest state on the list with an average response time of 7.26 minutes.

Colorado ranks sixth with an average EMS response time of 7.44 minutes, 1.23 minutes longer than the top spot.

In seventh place is New Jersey, with an average EMS response time of 7.83 minutes.

Michigan comes in 8th place with an average EMS response time of 8.26 minutes.

The ninth spot goes to Illinois, with an average EMS response time of 8.33 minutes.

Meanwhile, California has the longest average EMS response time: 17.85 minutes. It is followed by Wyoming with an average response time of 17.54 minutes and North Dakota at 14.36 minutes.

Interestingly, six of the top 10 states with the longest average EMS response times are in the west side of the country.
