TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — With less than a month of hurricane season, more than a quarter of the Floridians are more worried than last year than in the coming few seasons, according to research data released by the AAA.
This comes just after the 2024 season, which thwarted the state’s Gulf Coast with three hurricane landings.
Hurricane season is just a month away. Are you ready?
28% of Florida residents surveyed reported more concern about the upcoming season, while 69% feel the same level of concern as last year. These results are roughly the same as the 2024 survey conducted by the AAA.
Slightly many Floridians said they would evacuate their homes if ordered this year, 77% compared to 73% in the 2024 season. Almost a third of those surveyed said they would be evacuated due to a major hurricane.
Experts are predicting above-average hurricane seasons, so now is the time to get ready.
“The severity of the 2024 hurricane season was a reminder of how vulnerable we are to natural disasters,” said Jennifer Pintakuda, president of AAA’s Florida-based insurance company, in a statement. “More than ever, it’s important that residents revisit their insurance policies and be fully protected before the next storm approaches.”
