LAKE CITY, Fla. (WFLA) – A Florida police officer was shot dead at an Easter celebration Sunday.

Officers from multiple agencies, including the Lake City Police Department, were providing crowd management services at the Annie Mattox Recreation Center, where thousands of people will be taking part in the annual Easter event.

According to NBC’s affiliate WTLV, a fight broke out between several people just after 8pm. A Lake City police officer was shot dead while authorities tried to control the chaos.

Police identified the injured officer as Marcus Hardison. He was on his way to Gainesville Hospital with a bullet wound in his right arm, where he was told to “wake up and communicate with the paramedics.”

The LCPD crushed rumors that Hardison had been shot by a fellow officer. Three people have been detained in connection with the shooting, but no charges have been released at the time of this report.
