Collier County, Fla. (WFLA) – A man has been arrested after driving 100 mph through the school zone and hitting a school bus with his child, according to an arrest affidavit.
At about 2:30pm on Monday, deputies saw a red pickup speeding and said driver Stephen Hamlet, 39, nearly crashed into a cement truck and hit a school bus full of children while being handed over in the pass zone.
The aide said Hamlet also passed through the grass and a vehicle passing through the school zone, where the speed limit is 20 mph.
Hamlet was pulled and when deputies searched the pickup truck, they found a bag labelled “grass roots” containing glass pipes that tested for marijuana, grinders and cocaine residues, according to the report.
Hamlet has been arrested and faces charges of reckless driving and possession of drug equipment.
According to arrest reports, Hamlet was booked into Collier County Jail and later released on bonds.
