MARATON, Fla. (WFLA) — A Florida man armed with an AR-15 assault rifle shot three deputy patrol vehicles before pointing his gun at him, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said.

On Thursday night, authorities responded to the marathon apartment around 10pm regarding a man resident of the complex and throwing things from the roof.

Deputies from the sheriff’s office heard a gunshot as they approached the building.

The gunman, identified as 53-year-old Duane Clayton Day, began filming on a deputy patrol vehicle. Thankfully, authorities remained away from the area while the shot was fired.

The SWAT team, FHP, FWC officers and the US Customs and Border Patrol responded to establish boundaries for the area. The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office has also launched two helicopters carrying law enforcement snipers in search of a day.

Eventually, the day was found motionlessly on the roof, appearing to have taken his own life. The SWAT team confirmed the day’s death.

“It appears the suspect took his life before injuring a law enforcement officer or a member of the masses,” Sheriff Rick Ramsay confirmed there were no injuries.

Authorities discovered the AR-15 near the Glock pistol and the AR-15.

The Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident.

WFLA.com contacted the Sheriff’s Office about possible motives for the shooter. There was no immediate response.
