PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (WFLA) – A Port Charlotte man has been arrested after saying he attacked a couple outside Publix with bug spray when he didn’t let them skip in front of them at the checkout line.
The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office responded to Publix around 2pm on Sunday after receiving a call about a physical altercation.
Lawmakers said the incident began inside the store when 65-year-old Daniel Kennell was upset by the couple while he was on the checkout line.
The investigation revealed that the woman was waiting in line for her husband as Kennel approached and tried to reach her.
The woman told Kennel she was lined up, but that upset him, deputies said.
The victim began to put their items on the checkout belt, and Kennel began to do the same, fostering discussion.
According to the CCSO, the husband stepped between his wife and Kennel and told him to retreat.
Kennel left his cart and items and ran out of the store.
Deputies said after Kennel was outside the store he moved the vehicle to the other side of the parking lot to commit an attack.
The couple left the shop and began loading their groceries into the car as Kennel ran over to their backs and sprayed bug spray on their faces before fleeing and leaving the scene.
“This is a disgusting and coronavirus behavior. Above all, do you check out first at the grocery store? This guy was dangerous and completely unnecessary at a level that was dangerous. When frustrating, inevitably happens in life, says, “Is this worth it?”
The man needed treatment and was taken to a local hospital.
Deputies found Kennel nearby, where he was identified by the victim and refused to discuss the case with the deputy.
Kennel was arrested for a worse battery of two counts, causing great physical harm.
