There are currently 33 Costco Warehouse Clubs in Florida. The new Costco will open in Stuart in April. Plans to open a second Naples location have come across problems with their neighbors.
Costco encountered a problem earlier this week when Florida residents showed up at a nearby intelligence meeting.
Over 250 people attended the meeting, most opposed to plans for a new warehouse club in Naples, second in Cosco’s second Collier County.
It’s not the first time a warehouse club has encountered opposition in Florida.
In 2021, a long-planned 49-acre project in Martin County, including a 162,020-square-foot Costco warehouse and an 18-pump gas station, finally won approval from Stuart City Commissioner after an eight-hour meeting .
The Martin County store is scheduled to open in the spring.
