DANIA BEACH, Fla. (WFLA) — A Broward County detention deputy was arrested Monday after being charged with domestic batteries.
According to NBC affiliate WTVJ, the agent responded to a report of a domestic uproar in Dania Beach earlier this week.
On the scene, BCSO contacted David Powell and told them he and the woman were caught up in a verbal discussion.
A BCSO lawmaker told reporters that she told the victim that Powell told her that she had physically abused her.
BCSO says Powell slapped the victim in the face and ears, losing his hearing and hearing.
Broward County Councilman also said Powell beat the victim multiple times on the belt.
The woman suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.
Detectives said further investigations revealed that Powell has been allegedly abusing the victim since March 2024.
The Broward County Sheriff’s Office arrested Powell and confiscated his firearm.
According to them, Powell, who was hired on December 6, 2021, was placed on unpaid administrative leave.
