WEST CHESTER, Fla. (WFLA) — A landlord is in jail after he reportedly shot and killed a tenant after an argument over a thermostat turned physical, according to NBC affiliate WTVJ.

On Saturday, Miami-Dade deputies responded to a home in the 9400 block of Southwest 17th Terrace in Westchester and found a man with a gunshot wound.

According to the report, 37-year-old Adam Lewis Anson, armed with a semi-automatic handgun, attempted to enter the victim’s home by knocking on a window because he wanted to adjust the thermostat in the hallway.

When the victim opened the door, Anson forced his way inside and began punching the victim. He then dragged the man into the backyard and shot him multiple times in the head, WTVJ reported.

After shooting the victim, Anson reportedly went back inside, adjusted the temperature, returned to the house and called 911. Anson claimed he shot the man in self-defense because he was being attacked, according to the report.

The victim, identified as 57-year-old Carlos Alberto Gonzalez, was taken to a nearby hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

One resident told WTVJ he heard three gunshots, and they were so loud it felt like they were coming from his own home.

“After a few seconds, I realized something was wrong in my backyard and got very scared,” the resident said. “I started screaming, so I called my husband and said, ‘Hey, go to the backyard. I feel like there’s a stranger in the backyard.’ Then I heard a thump, thump, thump, thump. Ta.”

Anson was arrested on a charge of second-degree murder with a deadly weapon, according to court records.
