Florida Gun Owner (GOA) is excited by the possibility that newly appointed FBI director Kask Patel will take over alcohol, cigarettes, firearms and explosives (ATFs).
Gore says the ATF has long been a controversial institution among gun rights advocates who have long claimed it unfairly targets law-abiding gun owners. U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondy has fired the agency’s legal counsel, publicly accusing the ATF of systematically targeting gun owners.
Gore Florida Director Louis Valdez has stated the appointment of Patel to oversee the possibility of further reform in the administration, both the FBI and the ATF.
With over 2 million members and activists, Gore was a critic of the ATF’s voice. “For millions of Americans, the ATF represents a threat to their constitutional rights, and Gore continues to seek its dismantling,” Gore said.
Gore said there could be more shakeups as Patel takes on the dual role leading the FBI and ATF.
Proponents point to the success of the ATF in reducing violent crime through tools such as the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network, but critics say the agency is unfairly targeting legal gun owners and violating Second Amendment rights. Some Republican lawmakers have drafted laws to repeal it.
Bondi has already fired the ATF’s legal advisor and denounced the agency for “targeting gun owners,” and Republicans have cut the ATF’s budget significantly during their last administration.
