FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) – A Florida father was arrested after his 5-year-old daughter ingested THC gummies, according to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies arrived at the Department of Children and Families and found the child’s mother and father, identified as Ka Juan Harris, 29.
While in Harris’ custody, the daughter ingested an unknown amount of THC gummies.
FCSO said Harris did not contact medical personnel after the nonverbal, autistic child showed signs of intoxication.
According to an arrest affidavit, the child’s mother said she asked Harris to take her daughter to the hospital, but that Harris texted her to “sleep through it.”
Eight hours after taking the gummies, Harris dropped her daughter off with her mother and noticed that her daughter’s head was thrown back, she was unable to stand up, and she seemed to have difficulty opening her eyes.
The mother told police she took the child to the hospital, where he remained for two days before being released.
The mother told deputies that it was the second time her 5-year-old ingested drugs due to Harris’ “neglect and carelessness,” according to an arrest affidavit.
The first time she ingested an unknown opioid in 2020, she was hospitalized and left with developmental disabilities, non-verbal speech and autism, according to the report.
