FORT MYERS, Fla. (WFLA) — Florida men and women have been accused of ignoring infants so badly, and children are expected to have serious medical problems in their lives.
A Charlotte County detective was called to Golisano Children’s Hospital in Fort Myers on March 24 to deal with infants in “very important conditions.”

The sheriff’s office said the baby’s injuries include multiple skull fractures, brain hemorrhage and stroke. They are expected to be rushed to emergency surgery and survive, but the infant is facing a long recovery and is expected to have serious medical issues during that period,โ a news release from the sheriff’s office said.
Shona M. Hockplung, 22, and Alexander M. Ransom, 24, were identified as the couple who took the infant to hospital and was responsible for caring for the child at their Port Charlotte home. The lawmaker said he provided conflicting explanations of how the injuries occurred and there were inconsistent stories.

Hochsprung told detectives she rolled over to the toddler while she was sleeping, but hospital staff reported that the story did not explain the child’s injuries.
Detectives said they did not see a doctor when the infant was injured on March 23rd. That day, Ransom searched the internet for “It’s in the baby’s fringe” and “Do you snore your baby?”
“As a father, I know nothing more valuable than a child’s life,” Sheriff Bill Plumel said in a statement. “This infant fights for survival, so I ask you to join in prayer. God is giving you a better life in the future. Those who were supposed to care for this child still have many questions to answer. Meanwhile, my heart will be affected by that child.”
Hochsprung and Ransom were arrested and accused of negligence of children. They are being held unconfined at the Charlotte County Jail.
