Florida Conservation Committee takes the right approach in bear hunting

Florida hunts another bear too early | line, June 8th

Yes to science

I don’t hunt, and I don’t live near bears. However, we are grateful for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Committee’s efforts to protect bears and their habitat.

On the one hand, guest columnist Ellis Bennett says that the final hunt is from 2015, while on the other hand, she says that the current proposal is rushed and unthinkable.

She has an opinion on how to manage a different bear population than the Conservation Committee. Bennett and the FWC each believe in the careful conservation and conservation of natural resources, including animals, plants and their habitats, for current and future generations. She suggests that the committee wait several more years to update the information. That’s probably counterproductive.

The “ignoring science” opinion expressed in the letter on the same page does not discuss the same next science, bear hunting. I think many of these reactions are emotional, not science-based. It also assumes that the FWC is just listening to a small group seeking a trophy hunt. It is pure nonsense to accuse the FWC of not respecting science, to reflect public values and treat animals humanely.

In UF, Florida shows what he wants from the university president | Line, June 11th

Meaning “I woke up”

John Hill used the term “The Right Wing Wake Up” in his column on politicization, which selected the university president. It is a complete explanation of the idea of rights. The term “wake up” was intended to help people recognize how people influence other people, especially minorities, in our population. It was related to treating others with kindness and empathy. “The Right Wing happened” is something completely different. It’s about inflicting cruelty and pain. Our society and our universities pay a high price for it.
