In eight days, Crocodile Alcatraz went to an immigration detention facility ready to receive immigrants without permanent legal status from X’s proposal video.
Florida Attorney General James Usmiere first proposed building a $450 million annual facility at a small airport in the middle of the Everglades, attracting praise from conservative leaders around the country for the project.
Now that construction is complete, he is selling his merchandise.
Uthmeier unveiled his Wannial Catraz product on Tuesday hours before President Donald Trump landed in Florida and toured the facility.
His website has 21 items with the facility’s name, including a $30 T-shirt, a $12 bumper sticker, and a $25 coffee mug.
The Florida GOP Alligator Alcatraz Line, which launched Sunday, aims to raise funds for political spending across the state. Uthmeier’s products funds the 2026 bid to remain Florida’s Attorney General.
A friend of James Usmeer PAC, who supports his election, raised over $1.4 million in February and March. Ashley Moody, who won the 2022 General Election of Lawyers, has totaled just over $3.5 million.
Gov. Ron DeSantis appointed Usmeyer as Attorney General in February after Moody was tapped to replace Marco Rubio in the US Senate.
Uthmeier has built his name behind flashy initiatives like Crocodile Alcatraz, and nodded from Trump at the facility’s opening.
Trump praised Usmeyer for coming up with the facility’s Everglades location.
“I heard you’re responsible for that choice,” Trump told him. “It was a big choice. Thank you very much. Great job, James.”
Uthmeier is one of three candidates who announced their Attorney General’s bid in 2026. Others are Jose Javier Rodriguez, former national representative of the Coral Gables’ Democratic Party, and Stephen Leskovic, a Republican lawyer for Punta Gorda.
A notable name that could be in the race is former US Congressman Matt Gaetz. Gaetz was Trump’s first choice for the US Attorney General, but he retracted it from consideration during a federal sex trafficking investigation.
Gaetz told the Tampa Bay Times in January that he was considering running the governor. According to Axios, he is considering Florida Attorney General.
