SeaWorld Orlando set the opening day of its Arctic-based expedition Odyssey attraction and the public debut of a Pacific walrus calf rescued in Alaska. A ride and orphan animal named Cat will join the theme park lineup on May 1st, SeaWorld announced on Friday.
The Expedition Odyssey is a flying theatre-type ride that effectively transports visitors to the depths of the Arctic Ocean, over the glaciers, tundra. Exclusive footage shown on the 50-foot-diameter curved screen includes encounters with orcas, beluga whales, polar bears, seals and walruses. The scene was filmed on three two-week excursions over the course of a year.
Located in the old wild Arctic space, the new attraction “is an adventure unlike anything guests experienced before, combining thrilling and immersive storytelling with powerful, real-world animal connections,” Park President John Peterson said in a news release. “The latest addition to our parks brings the wonders of the Arctic back to life in a way that only SeaWorld can do, unlike anything we’ve never done before.”
