Lucy, Port St. Fla. (WFLA) — A thief has been arrested as one of the crime victims went two steps ahead, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office said.
Over the course of several months, fellow automotive construction companies reported multiple thefts of insulated copper wires being stolen overnight. The stolen material consisted of black, white and green copper wire. It was hand coiled and kept in a trailer, the complaint affidavit states.

Officials have determined that the estimated stolen coils are believed to be more than $3,000.
After the initial theft, the associates installed gaming cameras to monitor the area, and ultimately captured the suspect’s vehicle. According to the affidavit, the employee told deputies he saw his son working with copper wire at his home.
The company also carefully installed GPS trackers on several copper spools, the sheriff’s office said.
