TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – Interstate-4 drivers in the Orlando area may be paying a little more than they’re used to when taking Express Lane.
The Florida Department of Transport will implement dynamic tolls on Monday.

Express Lanes has been operating at a fixed stall rate since its inception, but said FDOT is not intended to last forever. Starting Monday, toll charges will be updated continuously based on the amount of “demand” or traffic that uses the lane.
This means drivers pay higher fees during their morning and evening commutes. Prices will be posted on digital signs that are updated throughout the day.
FDOT said it has implemented dynamic tolls in other parts of the state, “reducing congestion and maintaining reliable travel times.”
Tampa Bay Area toll roads (such as the Selmon Expressway and I-275) are still operating at a fixed rate. However, FDOT said it’s only a matter of time before it arrives in Tampa Bay, as many Express Lane projects are designed to implement dynamic tolls.
